Hazel Grove Baptist Church started as a plant from Poynton Baptist Church in 1988. Initially we met in the youth centre at Hazel Grove High School but it wasn't long before a warehouse opposite the train station came up for sale. After a dedicated time of prayer, discussion and sacrificial giving, the building was purchased.
This started years of hard work converting it to a Church facility.
As the building is a converted warehouse it is far from traditional. We have hosted numerous Christian conferences and the Sanctuary is designed to meet all needs. We have three large projection screens, modern PA facilities and camera recording facilities. Our services are fully signed and the building is fully accessible for those with disabilities. We also have several multifunctional rooms for many styles of meetings, the community café and the Foodbank.
In 1997 Billy Montgomery was appointed Senior Minister at HGBC. He was joined in 2002 by our Youth Worker, Mark Paddon. Mark and Billy have continued working together and in 2014 Mark was appointed Assistant Minister. Since 2014 we have had a number of Youth and Children workers including Lucy Betts, Tim Burnham, Claire Conner and Amanda Lamb. This post is currently vacant.
During the Covid pandemic the Church was used by local GP’s as a vaccination centre and helped to re enforce the work of our Church in the minds of our community. Although we were not allowed to meet in person during this time, our live streaming skills were pushed to their limits and this work has continued with an increasing number now viewing our services either ‘live’ or on YouTube.
Work never really stops as we try to stay modern and relevant to current cultures and technology. Through the years there have been many changes and many answers to prayers and in it all, God has been faithful as He continues to grow His Church through us.
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23
